Are you interested in wildfire prevention, forest restoration or environmental communication? Apply for an internship in Europe next summer.

Students from our partner institutions (the University of Santiago de Compostela, University of Aveiro, University of Florence and University of Athens) who are studying biology, education, forestry, economics, environmental science, agronomy, journalism or related fields, are eligible to apply for a 1-month placement that will take place between may and july 2023. Placements will be on the cities where the universities are located and will include Service-Learning activities in the field of forest management, restoration and fire prevention with the local community and other stakeholders.

Who is it for?

Students from our partner institutions (the University of Santiago de Compostela, Universiy of Aveiro, University of Florence and University of Athens), with an interest in forestry and environmental issues, who are studying biology, education, forestry, economics, environmental science, agronomy, journalism or related fields.

Where will the internship take place?

The internships will take place at the home regions and localities of the four partner universities of the program. Those are is Lugo (University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain), Aveiro (University of Aveiro, Portugal), Florence (University of Florence, Italy), and Athens (University of Athens, Greece).

When will the internship take place?

The internships will take place for a month between may and july 2023, depending on the availability of the hosting institution.

What’s the content of the internship?

In case you are selected, you will be asked to contribute to the development of different activities programmed during ongoing service-learning projects related to fire management, with the support of different stakeholders (companies, forest owner associations, administrations, researchers…).
These include field activities (trips to damaged areas, fire prevention and restoration activities, emergency training), technical activities (wildfire risk map development, data processing, support research on the topic), communication tasks (development of short video/photo materials about the experience and issues) and educational activities (service-learning project design).

What skills are developed?

The placements will contribute to student training, further developing transversal and employability skills, confidence and capability for teamwork in an international and multi-disciplinary setting.
